sql - SSAS Tabular on Azure? -


i'm attempting deploy ssas tabular model (i don't know i'm doing )

i have made multidimensional on sql server 2008 r2 vs2013. wanted try tabular in conjunction power bi.

so set sql azure db, have azure sql database , visual studio 2013 pro

i can connection azure db in vs2013 , write t-sql against when try , create tabular model , select azure database sql server workspace fails make connection.

is compatibility module or need create azure vm? thank ... p.s. fist question ever i'm excited

azure sql db relational sql database. not analysis services. can't deploy analysis services database azure sql db. need create virtual machine in azure sql server enterprise edition image , install tabular instance , open ports , deploy tabular model vm.

update of october 2016: announced azure analysis services. while separate azure sql database, provide paas offering analysis services tabular models means don't have deploy vm functionality. supports latest 1200 compatibility level tabular models, not multidimensional models.
